يعيش في الغابات ويقضي النهار في الكهوف والأبنية المهجورة. يعتبر هذا الخفاش كبير أفراد جنسه حجما في المنطقة، إذ يبلغ طول جسمه حوالي 7.7 سم، وطول ذيله حوالي 6 سم، ويتراوح وزنه بين 18 و45 جراماً. يغطي ظهره فراء بني اللون، أما بطنه فأبيض والجزء الأسفل منه يغطيه لون مصفر.
يطير بشكل مستقيم وبحركة بطيئة. تتجمع الإناث أثناء فترة الحمل بأعداد كبيرة جداً تصل أحيانا إلى عشرات الالاف ثم تعود لتفترق مع قدوم فصل الصيف.
يتم التزاوج في فصل الشتاء، وتدوم مدة الحمل حوالي 70 يوماً. تضع الإناث صغيراً واحداً، وأحياناً اثنين، في فصل الربيع أو الصيف. تبلغ الصغار سن التزاوج عند بلوغها السنة الأولى وتعمر حوالي سبع سنوات. يتغذى على الحشرات.
The greater mouse-eared bat is found in the Mediterranean area and the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula. This bat inhabits woodlands and roosts in caves and abandoned buildings. This bat is relatively large compared to other members of its species in the area. Its body length reaches 7.7 cm. its tail is around 6 cm long, and weighs anywhere from 18 to 45 gm. Its back is covered with brown fur, its belly is white and the lower parts of its body are covered with a yellowish colour. They fly in a slow and straight line. Females congregate during pregnancy in great numbers that can reach up to tens of thousands, but the group disperses again at the onset of summer.
Mating takes place during winter and the gestation period lasts for about 70 days. The female gives birth during the spring or summer to one or two young. The young reach sexual maturity at the age of one.It has a life span of about seven years.
They feed on large insects, but it is also believed to feed on small fish.
