سنديان برنتي Brant’s oak

نوع نباتي شجري من جنس السنديان من الفصيلة الزانية. أوراق سـنديانة برنتـي داكنـة أكـر مـن أوراق أي نـوع آخـر من السـنديان وحبـات البلوط أكـبر حجما كما أن الشـجرة متعددة الجذوع. يتـّمَ زرع بلـوط سـنديان برانتـي كغـيره من أنواع السـنديان الأخـرى بتجميع حّباته في بداية الموسـم قبـل أنَ تفتـك بهـا الديـدان وما أن يتحّول لونها من الأخر الىالبّني ويسـهل نزع تاجها. لاُ يناسـب التخزيـن حبـات بلـوط سـنديان برنتـي لـذا يتوجـب زرعهـا خـلال مـدة لا تتجـاوز الأسـبوعين بعـد جمعهـا، وذلـك في أحواض واسـعة لتوفير المسـاحة المناسـبة للحبـات التي يبلغ طـول الواحدة منها 3 سـنتيمترات وعرضهـا سـنتيم َترين. قد يصل طـول النباتات الجديدة الى نصف مـتر في الحوض الصغير. لا يجـب تسـميد حبـات البلـوط اُلمعّدة للتشـجير كي لاُ تفرط شـتولها في النمّو وَتتلف متـى تّم زرعها في الحقـل لأّنهـا تكـون عاجـزة عن التكّيـف مع الجفـاف والحّر.

The natural distribution of Brant’s Oak includes Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey. In Lebanon, however, the tree is found only in the Shouf Reserve, and as scattered individual trees in Barouk, Maaser and Kefraya. The tree is deciduous. It produces large acorns and its leaves are much darker than those of other species. Brant’s Oak trees tend to have multiple trunks.Planting the acorns of Brant’s Oak follows the same process as for all Oak species. Collect acorns early in the season to avoid infestations by insects. The acorns can be collected as soon as their color starts turning from green to brown and they separate easily from their cap. Acorns do not store well and should be planted within two weeks after they have been collected. Plant the acorns in relatively large pots to make room for the large acorns. Seedlings can reach up to half a meter growing in small pots. Seedlings that are grown for reforestation purposes should not be fertilized heavily, otherwise the shoots will grow too much and the seedlings will not be able to withstand the stress of drought and heat when planted in the field. It is best to plant acorns directly in the field by loosening the soil with a metal rod to a depth of 30 centimeters then planting the seed at a depth equal to its size.
